Who We Are Since 1983--for New York State prison families, by NYS prison families--support by groups, on-line communities, telephone. Information about NYS prisons, parole, commmunity resources for prison families and friends, former prisoners. Advocacy--we teach prison families how to advocate for their loved ones. We assist communities statewide in development of resources for prison families; training and technical assistance;
Our Vision What change can be accomplished when NYS prison families become organized? We can coerce DOCS to become a "pro-family agency"--keeping prisoners close to home, encouraging family unity. We can influence NYS government to end the MCI contract, which makes it impossible for many of us to accept collect phone calls. We can become a constituency that is asked to participate in policy-making around incarceration, alternatives, parole and family programs.
Types Of Activity Support groups--in-person and on-line, adults and children; we can help you get it started. Trainings on the effects of incarceration on families and communities. We are experts in NYS prison issues and can assist you if you are a prison family member or a person of conscience. We host a yearly 3-day retreat for women who have loved ones in NYS prisons. We sponsor criminal justice dinners in the Capital District (Albany, NY); panels, talks, etc.
Location We occasionally speak to groups of prisoners about family and community issues. However, our work focuses on prison families and their communities.
Our magazine (newsletter)
none at this time. We invite you to help get something started.
About Our Prison Ministry From the Director and Founder of PFNY--my husband went to prison in 1981; 25 years to life for robbery 3, $18 (no injury, no weapon). He is still in prison, we have raised our 2 children; Jay and I now devote our time to assisting families and prisoners in surviving this experience and being part of progressive change.
Support In More families! More people of conscience! More connections with unlikely allies! More reporters! $ would be great but this work will happen anyway!
